Two of the Mates model railway layouts (Serendipity, and Londesborough) were at the Scalby Model Railway Show this year, as well as information about and examples of the sort of things we make and do at Mates. Lots of our leaflets were given out and lots of talking done!

Mates had a double stall at Scalby Fair this Summer, with lathe, Dremel, pyrography and scroll saw demonstrations, as well as a couple of games for people to play. There was also a wonderfully successful cake stall! It was a long and tiring day, but it was great to be part of Scalby Fair!

The Mates’ Soapbox Team entered the Humber Soapbox Derby again this year and came a very creditable 4th in our group!
Well done to Lou who was the driver, Dave, who provided the pushers (that part is a young person’s game!) and everyone who went down to watch and cheer them on!

In May, Mates held an open day at their premises, inviting members of the public, other organisations and Mates and their families down to see the sort of thing we get up to.
There were lots of demos to watch throughout the day, and a chance to have a go at a ceramics technique known as sgraffito. Our Mates Soapbox was there and created quite a bit of interest, as did our Splat the Rat, and Don’t Pot the Ball game.
Gallons of tea was drunk, lots of cake and biscuits were eaten, and the day was hailed a success by everyone!
