Workshop

The workshop facilities at Scarborough Mates are housed in the largest room in the building, which has ample natural light and double doors leading onto an external concrete apron which can also be utilized, weather permitting.

For obvious health and safety reasons, individuals need to be signed off as competent to use much of the workshop equipment before working independantly on them. We have a number of members competent to carry out these assessments.

These assessors can also teach individuals on equipment they are not familiar with. Supervising them as necessary until that person is confident and safe to work independently.

Our free-standing equipment includes:

Metal Working Equipment

  • Metal Lathe
  • Milling Machine

Wood Working Equipment

  • Free-standing Wood Lathe
  • Table Lathe
  • Scroll Saw
  • Band Saw
  • Table Saw
  • Pillar Drill
  • Floor Mounted Disc Sander

We have a wide range of portable power tools, including an angle grinder, router, Dremel, assorted drills, screwdrivers, various hand-held sanders and multi-tools.

In addition we have a wide range of the usual hand tools you would expect to find in a workshop, along with almost every size of nut, screw, washer, nail and drill bit you could imagine!

Again, our assessors are very happy to teach people to use these tools, supervising them as necessary until they are competant to use them safely and independantly.
