The Object of MATES

Scarborough MATES- Registered Charity No 1184005
MATES is a friendly group, where men and women can meet to try out new activities like wood turning, furniture restoring, model making, restoring an old bike, ceramics, art, coding and robotics or just having a cuppa and a chat. Our aim is to reduce social isolation, and build a stronger community through shared practical activities and the sharing of skills,  learn new skill in a safe and friendly environment, make new friends, have fun. Share your skills and experience to help others.
If you follow the link below the BBC have put on their News web site an article as a follow up to the clip showen on Look North last week.

Fellow MATES,

Please see attached news from our Soap Box team.

We would like members to submit ideas for themed bodywork .

Every Tuesday Ted will be giving one hour training sessions on our metal lathe.
These will be on Tuesdays and Fridays from 11am till 12 noon.
Numbers will be restricted to 2 per session.
Sessions with Ted must be booked with him directly by request through email at his address below..

Most members will be aware of the increasing rates of Covid 19 infection now prevalent in the UK.

In order to continue to help keep all of our members and their families’ safe, it was decided at our latest Trustee Meeting that the following procedure will be introduced, starting on Monday 25th October, and continuing until further notice.

1) All members and visitors to our building will have a contactless temperature check prior to being allowed to enter. This will be carried out by the Duty Manager for the session involved, who will record high temperatures on the daily logbook

2) If a person’s temperature is found to be raised, they will be asked to arrange to have a PCR test and come back when their results are negative.

3) Masks will continue to be discretionary for the present.

We trust that members will be happy to participate in this, hopefully, short term safety measure, which we believe necessary in the current national situation.
